Lesson 1

Total Healing From the Lord By His Spirit & Word

Introduction

I am convinced that Christians in general do not fully understand the authority they have in the wonderfully precious, glorious, and mighty name of Jesus. I purposely used several different attributes to describe Jesus. He is an all purpose Savior. It does not matter at all what the circumstance or situation may be, He is the answer to ALL your needs.

We must realize that the name of Jesus carries weight. It is authority all by itself. Mark 16:17,18 states it clearly… “And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.” This is going to be the main focus throughout this entire lesson. The believer must realize the authority they have in the mighty name of Jesus!

The believer for to long has spoke things either vain, unfit, or undesirable to nurture his or her spirit man. We cannot afford to be unfocused. The tongue is the most powerful organ of the human body. Once something is said it cannot be taken back. You may ask and plead for forgiveness, and forgiveness may even be granted. However, it is not forgotten! You will have to live with what you said for the rest of your earthly life! Scripture states that the tongue is an “unruly evil” (James 3:8). The Word also states… “Death and life are in the power of the tongue” (Proverbs 18:21). Get accustomed to speaking the name of Jesus over the darkest of problems to bring a blessing and break curses.

As believers we must realize what is going on in the heavens. There is warfare beyond comprehension taking place. In Ephesians 6:12 the Lord makes it clear by His Word what’s going on… “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” In heaven Jesus is our intercessor or lawyer. We must get this picture painted in our mind. Jesus is our defense attorney (Romans 8:34), God is the Judge (Hebrews 12:23), and Satan is the accuser of the brethren (Revelation 12:10). Jesus is ready to be at our defense whenever we need Him!

My prayer and soul desire is that this lesson will stir up our spirit man to rely on the name of Jesus in EVERY situation or circumstance for deliverance. We must realize that the name of Jesus WILL SET THE CAPTIVE FREE! It doesn’t matter whether it is the common cold, cancer, or someone bound with what seems to be the fiercest of devils, speaking over any situation, with boldness, in the mighty name of Jesus is the answer!

The Christians Power of Attorney in the Name of Jesus

I. Definition of Agency and Power of Attorney

The Bible clearly states the divine doctrine of agency. For the benefit of understanding this principle I will attempt to explain this by looking at the position of a lawyer and the judge in a courtroom setting (later on in part 2). First we will examine the definition of an agent and power of attorney.

Agency in the business world is the relationship between two or more persons by which one person (the agent) represents another (the principal) in the transaction of lawful acts of business. Agents are of two kinds: general and special. A general agent is authorized to represent the principal in all of his business, or in a business of a particular kind. A special agent is authorized to do some specific thing such as selling or acquiring property for the principal.

Any person who is capable of making free and intelligent decisions may act as the principal or agent. Someone that is unstable mentally, infant, or does not exercise clear understanding cannot act either as the principal or agent.

The authority of the agent to conduct business for the said principal is called the power of attorney. The authority of the agent is declared in three ways: by deed under seal, by writing, or by word. The agent cannot appoint a substitute or delegate power to another without the permission of the principal.

The authority of the agent can be terminated in several ways. Simply anything that would make the agent incapable of fulfilling the duty he or she was called to oversee such as unethical business practices, insanity, or conflicting personal interests.

A person doing business with an agent is responsible for investigating this person to make sure that they have sound business ethics.

The document that has been signed to give the agent authority to sign notes, checks, and other legal documents is usually referred to as The Power of Attorney. A document of this nature could read as follows:

“KNOW ALL MEN BY THESE PRESENT, that, I John Doe, of (city), (county), and (State), have made, constituted, and appointed, and BY THESE PRESENT do make, constitute, and appoint, John Smith true and lawful attorney for me and in my name, place and stead, to (duty to oversee), giving and granting unto my said attorney full power of authority to do and perform all and every act and thing whatsoever, requisite and necessary to be done in and about the premises, as fully, to all the intents and purposes, as I might or could do if personally present, with all power of substitution and revocation, hereby ratifying and confirming all that my said attorney or substitute shall lawfully do or cause to be done by virtue thereof.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and seal the (day), (year).

Signed, Sealed, and Delivered in the Presence of

II. Biblical Proof for the Christian’s Power of Attorney

All born again Christians have the right to use the name of Jesus in petitioning God for their needs! I mean all! If you know beyond a shadow of a doubt that you have confessed Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savoir and He rules and reigns in your life, you my friend have full access to the throne of God through Jesus! Just as the world has it’s legal system, God has His. You are an agent of God by Christ Jesus. You have the legal documents to prove it. You are SEALED WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT OF PROMISE! (Ephesians 1:13), You are recorded in God’s legal document, THE LAMBS BOOK OF LIFE! (Revelation 21:27), and you have the authority by His Word to do His mighty works! (Mark 16:15-18). You can and MUST exercise your power of attorney through Jesus as your Savoir.

A believer needs to realize and learn that they have a God ordained system in place to confront the enemy on their own in the name of Jesus. Once the blood bought saint of God realizes this they are then ready to confront the trials, tribulations, financial problems, sickness and all afflictions of this sort with confidence in Jesus and His Word.

SPECIAL NOTE: Always remember that it is not you or your power that brings healing. It is the price that Jesus paid on the cross by which we receive our healing in His name (1 Peter 2:24).

Now let’s get to the meat of the lesson, the Word of God, and what is written about the authority of the believer to pray for themselves, lay hands on the sick, and cast out devils. This is what the Holy Word of God has to say:

“Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them” (Matthew 18:19,20)

“And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God. And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen” (Mark 16:15-20)

“Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it” (John 14:12-14)

“Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you” (John 15:16)

“And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you. Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full. These things have I spoken unto you in proverbs: but the time cometh, when I shall no more speak unto you in proverbs, but I shall show you plainly of the Father. At that day ye shall ask in my name: and I say not unto you, that I will pray the Father for you” (John 16:23-26)

After examining the Word of God it is clear that the believer has authority in the name of Jesus to pray for the sick, and ask for needs to be met with confidence. Now I would like for us to take a look at the heavenly courtroom scene.

Always remember that Jesus is at the right hand of the Father as stated in Romans 8:34… “Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.” In Revelation 12:10 scripture states that Satan is the accuser of the brethren… “And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.” God is the Judge as stated in Psalm 50:6-15… “And the heavens shall declare his righteousness: for God is judge himself. Selah. Hear, O my people, and I will speak; O Israel, and I will testify against thee: I am God, even thy God. I will not reprove thee for thy sacrifices or thy burnt offerings, to have been continually before me. I will take no bullock out of thy house, nor he goats out of thy folds. For every beast of the forest is mine, and the cattle upon a thousand hills. I know all the fowls of the mountains: and the wild beasts of the field are mine. If I were hungry, I would not tell thee: for the world is mine, and the fullness thereof. Will I eat the flesh of bulls, or drink the blood of goats? Offer unto God thanksgiving; and pay thy vows unto the most High: And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me.” Also in Hebrews 12:23... “To the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect, And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel.”

Clearly from the Word of God you can see the picture being painted of this heavenly legal war. To give it a little more clarity let’s look at the diagram below. (graphic’s from lesson manual)

In this diagram we can see that Jesus is ever constant to be our mediator in the time of need. Satan and his team of demons try to bring up the past to destroy your confidence in praying for others. He will try to tell you that you are not capable or worthy to pray and believe for someone or yourself to be healed. He will most certainly try to convince you that you are a fool for even thinking of applying the James 5:14 scripture of laying hands on the sick, anointing with oil in the name of Jesus, and praying with faith. This is where (For the born again believer) Jesus steps in and simply declares that you have been washed in the blood! All of your past is erased and your future belongs to Him! Jesus declares to the Father that, yes, brother or sister ________________________ is worthy to approach the throne of grace boldly and petition you Father God for all their needs at any time because they are your child. Jesus, I believe at that time would tell Father God that you gave you life and heart over to Him by telling Father God the time, hour and possibly minute, maybe even the very second that you received Jesus Christ into your heart. Then, without a single delay, God says DONE! Satan is defeated once again by the powerful, redeeming, healing blood of Jesus!

Christians must wake up and realize their rights as a New Testament believer. We need to exercise fully the Power that we have in Jesus name, only then will we be able to see the full impact against sin, sickness, and failure.

When you pray in the name of Jesus, pray in authority and with confidence just as if Jesus Himself were praying. When Jesus was at the grave of Lazarus He said, “Father I thank thee that thou hast heard me. And I Knew that thou hearest me always” (John 11:41-42).

We must realize that Jesus is at this present time our High Priest before God (Hebrews 4:14-16). He has not yet become King. This will take place after He comes back to receive the Church, His Bride in the rapture.

To the Father, the name of Jesus means everything! He honors His Son’s name above all names. It is by Jesus, His Son that redemption has come to mankind through His torturous death and glorious resurrection.

To Satan and demons, the name of Jesus means utter defeat, humiliation, and banishment to Hell forever! Satan and his host must obey when commanded to do so in the name of Jesus.

To the church, the name of Jesus means deliverance, hope, salvation for the lost, and that any need you have can be answered by crying out to God in the name of Jesus.

It is God’s sole desire that we would walk daily in the authority of Jesus name. The true knowledge of who we are as Christians, is to exercise our authority as believers in Jesus name. I can’t stress enough how we must trust in Jesus and allow the strongholds of life on this earth to be brought under subjection in the mighty name of Jesus. Jesus is divine, Jesus is our Lord, and Jesus has the right to intervene in our affairs. We should honor, love, obey, and pledge our lives to Jesus. We should continually seek Him in prayer and His word, and desire to be led by the Spirit of God everyday.

III. Christ’s Power of Attorney

IF we as Christians have been given the power of attorney through Jesus, we must now take a look at how Jesus has the right to do so.

1. His Deity. By virtue of being God by nature (Colossians 1:15-18; Hebrews 1:1-3).

2. By Birth. Not only because of His deity, but also because of His humanity, Christ has obtained this place before God and man as the Savior, Life giver, and the Power of God. “Thou shalt call his name Jesus: for he shall save his people from their sins” (Matthew 1:21). Jesus was “Immanuel” or God with us (Matthew 1:23; Isaiah 7:14; 9:6-7). Jesus was born to be the King of the Jews and the Savior of the world (John 19:36-37; Luke 2:11; Luke 2:25-32).

3. By His Sinlessness. Jesus is and will be the only one to walk this earth without sin. He was made in the likeness of flesh that sin controlled, but His flesh was not sinful flesh or under the dominion of sin, as was that of all other men (Romans 8:1-3; II Corinthians 5:21; I Peter 2:21-25). Because of His sinless life God blessed Him above all other men (Hebrews 2:9).

4. By His Preparation. Christ prepared Himself from childhood for the work that the Father had sent Him into the world to do (Luke 2:43-49).

5. By His Anointing. Because of His humanity and earthly limitations as a man and because of His sinless life and preparation for a divine anointing, God gave Him the full anointing of the Holy Spirit to enable Him to achieve superiority in Heaven, Earth, and Hell. This was predicted in Isaiah 11:1-2 “And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots: And the spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord.” Two other references are: Isaiah 43:1-7; Isaiah 61:1-2. These prophetic words were fulfilled in Matthew 3:16-17 “And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” Three other references are found in Luke 4:16-21; Acts 10:38; John 3:34.

6. By His Achievements. By what He accomplished for God and Man He is superior. He is the master over Satan, sin, demons, death, Hell, and the grave! Praise the Lord! God’s perfect plan has come to complete perfection in Jesus Christ His only begotten Son. All of creation is commanded by Scripture to worship Jesus as we can see in Philippians 2:5-11 “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” Also see: Colossians 1:16-21; 2:14-17; Ephesians 1:20-23; 4:7-11; Hebrews 2:14-15; I Peter 3:22; Revelation 5:1-14; 7:11. The Bible states in John 21:25 that if all of the works of Jesus were to be recorded, there would not be enough books in the world to hold it all!

7. By Inheritance. Paul speaks of Jesus as having been appointed “Heir of all things” (Hebrews 1:2) and that “by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they” (the angels, Hebrews 1:1-14). The name of Jesus is greater than any other name on earth. Mankind tries to attain fame in many ways. Some do it with a humble heart and some with evil intentions. Jesus inherited it from the Father of all creation, the Lord God almighty.

Jesus is Lord of all creation and every situation that may arise. He desires to confer the power of attorney upon all believers. All believers have the ability in the name of Jesus to do even greater things than Jesus did. This is what John 14:12-15 says, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.”

If we will grasp that Jesus loves us and that there is on deposit a heavenly healing awaiting our request, and by faith believe without doubting in the

mighty name of Jesus, then we are ready to receive a miracle from the Lord.

Jesus came in His Father’s name and performed many works. Father God gave this power to Him by His Spirit. Now Jesus by His inheritance has given the same authority in His name and by His Spirit to those who have accepted Him as their Lord and Savior.

Now we shall discuss exercising the power of attorney.

IV. Christian Exercise of the Power of Attorney

All Christians are commanded to use the name of Jesus in:

1. Salvation (Matthew 1:21; Acts 4:12).

2. Baptism (Matthew 28:19).

3. Healing (Acts 3:6-7, 16).

4. Preaching (Luke 24:47; Acts 8:12).

5. Miracles (Acts 3:16; 4:30; Mark 9:29).

6. Judgment (I Corinthians 5:1-5).

7. Appeals to others (I Corinthians 1:10).

8. Prayer (John 14:12-15; 16:23-26).

9. Faith and repentance (John 1:12; 3:18; Acts 10:43).

10. Praise (Hebrews 13:15).

11. All gatherings (Matthew 18:20).

12. Consecration (Matthew 19:29).

13. Charity (Mark 9:41).

14. Singing (Roman 15:9).

15. Combat (Mark 16:17; Luke 17:10; Ephesians 6:10-18).

16. All things (Colossians 3:17; Ephesians 5:20).

The Bank of Heaven has on deposit everything you could possibly need. All you need to do is ask God in the name of Jesus for your needs. It is that simple. All God asks is that you have simple childlike faith. Faith the size of a grain of mustard seed (Matthew 17:20)! Every Believer has this amount of faith! Mark 11:22-24 will lay the groundwork; “And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God. For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith. Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.”

This promise is not for the sinner; “And God wrought special miracles by the hands of Paul: So that from his body were brought unto the sick handkerchiefs or aprons, and the diseases departed from them, and the evil spirits went out of them. Then certain of the vagabond Jews, exorcists, took upon them to call over them which had evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preacheth. And there were seven sons of one Sceva, a Jew, and chief of the priests, which did so. And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye? And the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, and overcame them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded. And this was known to all the Jews and Greeks also dwelling at Ephesus; and fear fell on them all, and the name of the Lord Jesus was magnified. And many that believed came, and confessed, and showed their deeds. Many of them also which used curious arts brought their books together, and burned them before all men: and they counted the price of them, and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver. So mightily grew the word of God and prevailed” (Acts 19:11-20). These men were foolish. Sinners have no right to use the name of Jesus except in repentance; “And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved” (Acts 2:21). Other references can be found in: Acts 10:43; Luke 24:47.

Never, ever doubt the amount that is on deposit in Heaven! Always remember that Jesus wants you to have the best! His Best! Be ready and willing at all times to write out the check for whatever you need, for whatever amount!

As Jesus tarries we are going to see greater and greater miracles take place. More and more Christians are going to come to the realization that God shall supply all our need according to His riches in Glory by Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:19).

In dealing with demon spirits we must be clean Christians, free from sin, or devils will mock, ignore or possibly attack us if we try to cast them out. We must understand that we are representatives of God walking in the authority of Jesus and that we are taking the place of Christ in this world to cast out demons. We rebuke demons and heal the sick in His place and at His command. We are in Christ and Christ in us, and we have the right to legally represent Him on Earth.

The name of Jesus stands for justice, love, righteousness, holiness, peace, power, influence, happiness, liberty, life, light, joy, friendship, judgment, salvation, home, Heaven, and all that is good. It is the hope of the world and the joy of the saints.

What an awesome responsibility for us as Christians! It is wonderful to know that God trusts us enough to be visible evidence of His existence used to perfect His work in this world.

Always remember that the proper use of the name of Jesus will heal the sick, cast out devils, make one immune to poisons, give an answer to every prayer, give health and prosperity, will perform miracles and defeat all the powers of the devil.

We can and will as born-again, blood bought, spirit filled men and women of God set captives free in the mighty name of Jesus.
